Please review this notice for updated information regarding TSMHA's collection of Vaccination information. Because OMHA is currently reviewing its policy in light of a guideline recently released by the Province, the TSMHA is pausing
the collection of information pending further information.
As we move toward the implementation of Ontario's vaccine passport initiative, scheduled to begin on September 22, there have been several additional communications, from various organizations (including the government) that make navigating this issue complicated.
The purpose of this communication is to provide you with the information as best we can.
What we know:
- Ontario's Vaccine Passport initiative requires all those who are eligible (i.e. over the age of 12 years) to show proof of full vaccination prior to attending sports facilities.
- The Province of Ontario has since published clarifying guidance (at the following link) that states:
- The Tecumseh Arena has advised TSMHA that it will be actively screening individuals entering into its facilities, and may turn away individuals who are not fully-vaccinated over the age of 12, thatare not exempted pursuant to the guideline above.
- OMHA's current Vaccination Policy requires that ALL affected persons (i.e. players, coaches, volunteers, supervisors, officials, etc.) MUST be fully vaccinated in order to participate.
At this time, although it appears that OMHA's policy contradicts the Province's guideline, the fact is that the guideline expressly states that it does not prevent any organization from establishing its own "additional policies or requirements."
We have been advised that OMHA is currently reviewing its policy in light of the recently-published guideline. Although the TSMHA strongly encourages everyone to get fully-vaccinated in order to ensure participation, the TSMHA is currently pausing the collection of vaccination information, and will not be restricting skates or tryouts until OMHA has provided information as to whether it will be modifying its policy. We will provide updates as soon as information becomes available.
Essentially, this means that all players may continue to try out regardless of vaccination status or intent to vaccinate. However, please be advised that if the OMHA Vaccination Policy remains unchanged, the TSMHA will recommence the collection of vaccination information and will be enforcing its earlier Statement re: Vaccination Verification published on the website on September 11, 2021.
The TSMHA Board appreciates your continued patience as we navigate through these matters with you.
