Please receive this further to the recent communication regarding Covid-19 Vaccination protocols; this announcement outlines the times during which vaccination information will be collected.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS COMMUNICATION IS TO IDENTIFY TIMINGS FOR COLLECTION OF PROOF OF VACCINATION THAT WILL ENTITLE “AFFECTED PERSONS” (defined below) TO PARTICIPATE IN OMHA-RELATED ACTIVITIES.
Please review this information carefully as non-compliance may result in an affected person's inability to participate in TSMHA activities.
In light of the recent provincial announcement of a September 22 deadline requiring mandatory vaccination to participate in certain activities, we anticipate that a vaccination policy regarding attendance at the Tecumseh Arena will be forthcoming from the Town of Tecumseh in the near future. In this respect, the TSMHA Board of Directors continues to seek clarity from the OMHA regarding how the September 22 deadline will impact the current October 31 vaccination requirement set out by OMHA.
As we wait for direction from the Town, the TSMHA will be moving forward to collect information from its members in order to comply with the OMHA vaccination requirement and deadline.
Pursuant to the OMHA Vaccination Policy, “affected persons” include the following:
• Players born in 2009 or earlier
• Team Officials (Coaches, Trainers and Managers, etc.)
• Game Officials (referees, linespersons, timekeepers, etc.)
• Association Officials (minor hockey association directors, officers, executive and staff)
• OMHA Officials (directors, officers, supervisors, executive and staff, including hockey development personnel)
• Instructors (third parties engaged by Associations or Teams to provide specialized instruction (e.g., power skating, goaltending coaching)
This policy does not apply to hockey players born in 2010 or later, or to hockey spectators, however, individual municipalities may set their own policy.
Physical documentation will not be collected by TSMHA. In order to protect your personal information, vaccination information will be visually verified by a TSMHA Board Member.
Please be advised that the only documentation that will be accepted is a printed or otherwise visually verifiable copy of the Covid-19 Vaccination Identity Verification form located on the Ontario website at covid19.ontariohealth.ca. A guide to using this site can be found on the TSMHA website under the Covid Documents drop-down menu, or at the following link:
Affected persons will be eligible to participate based on the following categories:
Category 1: Fully Vaccinated Affected Persons
Fully vaccinated affected persons will be eligible to participate without restriction or further follow- up to, and beyond, October 31, 2021.
Category 2: Partially-Vaccinated Affected Persons
Affected persons who provide written confirmation of their intent to fully vaccinate prior to the October 31, 2021, OMHA deadline will be eligible to skate without restriction or further follow-up to October 31, 2021. Affected persons in this category must provide visual proof of full vaccination prior to that date by arranging to provide visual confirmation of full vaccination at the front office no later than October 31, 2021, failing which the affected person will not be eligible to participate and will receive a pro-rated refund of registration fees based on the number of skates attended.
Category 3: Unvaccinated Affected Persons who demonstrate an intent to vaccinate
Similar to Category 2 - affected persons who provide written confirmation of their intent to fully vaccinate prior to the October 31, 2021, OMHA deadline will be eligible to skate without restriction or further follow-up to October 31, 2021.
Category 4: Affected Persons seeking an OMHA exemption from vaccination
Affected persons seeking an exemption from the OMHA policy will not be permitted to skate until their exemption request package has been submitted to TSHMA for delivery to OMHA. Once the complete exemption request package has been delivered to TSMHA, the affected person will be entitled to participate pending the decision from OMHA. Any Category 4 affected person will no longer be eligible to skate after October 31, 2021, if a decision has not yet been made by OMHA, or at such time as the exemption request has been denied.
Category 5: Affected Persons unwilling to fully vaccinate
Any affected person who is unwilling to fully vaccinate, and who does not fall within Category 4, will not be permitted to participate as of the date that information is received and will receive a full refund of registration fees.
A TSMHA Board Member will be at the Tecumseh Arena and available to verify vaccination information at the following dates and times:
Travel Players, including players who are trying out for travel teams (please note that Midget Major players will be verified at their first scheduled practice):
Monday, September 13, 2021, between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, September 14, 2021, between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
House League players:
Saturday, September 18, 2021, between 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, September 19, 2021, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Players who do not attend during these times will be deemed to fall within Category 5 and will be ineligible to attend further skates and/or tryouts until such time as they have provided confirmation of vaccination or written intent to vaccinate to a TSMHA Board Member.
Because there is some incongruity between the Ontario Vaccination Passport commencement date (September 22, 2021) and the OMHA’s Vaccination Policy commencement date (November 1, 2021), although TSMHA is allowing affected persons in Categories 2, 3, and 4 to continue to participate, other municipalities may have rules and requirements that do not allow attendance in Arenas by affected persons who are not fully vaccinated. We will do our best to ensure that all individuals have the necessary information to avoid undue inconvenience.
Please be advised that the information set out herein may be subject to change, based on updated health guidelines, recommendations, or policies.
We appreciate your continued support.
