TSMHA 2020-21 Season Framework
We would like to thank our membership for being patient with us during this time, as we look to ensure a successful and enjoyable season!

Tecumseh-Shoreline Minor Hockey has created our initial framework for the upcoming season, while adhering to the protocols set forth by the OMHA and the OHF.  The safety of our members is of utmost importance.

Some of the highlights in the OHF Return To Play are:

  • Players are to register where they played in the 2019-2020 season
  • AAA players can opt to return to their home centre, NRPs will also have the option to return if the centre allows
  • No contact hockey
  • No tryouts for representative teams, all programming is done in house with initial rep team player composition intact
  • No APs (alternates), players can only play for 1 team
  • Season start will be solely skill development, followed by modified programming and game play (3 on 3, 4 on 4)
  • Minor & Major teams may be combined based on registration numbers or skill levels

In Stage 3 of the OHF Return To Hockey framework, the document has outlined a five (5) phase rollout from within.  A descriptive table outlining all stages can be found here:  OHF Return To Hockey Framework - Stages

We are currently in Stage 3a and will move to Stage 3b on Tuesday September 1st.  Here are some of the highlights from the next stages:

Stage 3b:

  • Registration to open on Tuesday September 1st
  • No games/scrimmages, all programming is skill development
  • Maximum of 30 participants on ice (including coaches, instructors)

Stage 3c:

  • (3 on 3) or (4 on 4) game play can be introduced, with no physical contact
  • League/Cohort play maximum is 50 players
  • Maximum of 40 participants on ice (including coaches, instructors, referees)

Stage 3d:

  • (3 on 3), (4 on 4) or (5 on 5) game play can be introduced, with no physical contact
  • Game play may be allowed to adjacent public health units (PHU)
  • League/Cohort play maximum is still 50 players
  • Maximum of 40 participants on ice (including coaches, instructors, referees)

Stage 3e takes all provisions in Stage 3d but allows potential for game play with expanded local health units

This framework is subject to and pending approval by the OMHA and OHF.

TSMHA Framework for 2020-21 on ice programming

Our season will begin on Monday September 21st, while registration is slated to open on Tuesday September 1st.  While we intend on keeping our registration open, we will have a soft close to our registration on Saturday September 12th.  This will allow us time to prepare team composition prior to our start date.  We strongly recommend you register as soon as possible to assist in our preparations.

Please note:  There will be NO SPECIAL REQUESTS for players or coaches this season.  We appreciate your understanding on this matter!

There will be 2 sessions offered this year, players must register for these sessions separately:

Session 1 – 12 weeks starting the week of Monday September 21st

Session 2 – 9-12 weeks starting the week of Monday January 4th

Tentatively, TSMHA plans to create a tiered system in house, with players being placed according to the teams last season, and skillsets.  Furthermore, we plan to setup cohorts with BOTH Windsor (WMHA) and Riverside (RMHA) at our higher tier levels for game play as we progress through each stage listed above.

The first 2-3 weeks will be solely based on skill development, followed by mini games (3 on 3 or 4 on 4 depending on the number of players & age groups).  TSMHA is finalizing an external program to enhance our skill development for not only our players but coaches alike.  That will be communicated hopefully in the coming days.

These modified games will ensure on-ice activity as well as our benches can adhere to the required physical distancing policies.  It is also important to note that once a player has been placed on a team, they are not permitted to move.

Tier 1 will be composed of primarily our AA travel players from last season, while allowing for potential AAA players who may look to return to the home centre.  NRP players could be offered a spot back on their 2019-20 team if its not filled by a AAA import.  AE players may be set in their own tier based on numbers/skillsets, or could fill vacancies accordingly.  These will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis (skill evaluation may be required).  Each team will be composed of 15-18 skaters and 2 goalies, and placed in cohorts of 8-9 skaters with a goalie for game play.  Teams will receive 3 hrs of ice per week.  Tier 1 players will have an additional cost above the base registration and will be communicated after Saturday September 12th.

Tier 2 will be composed primarily of our AE players from last season.  Select players may be used to fill vacancies accordingly.  These will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis (skill evaluation may be required).  Each team will be composed of 15-18 skaters with 2 goalies, and placed in cohorts of 8-9 skaters with a goalie for game play.  Teams will receive 3 hrs of ice per week.  Tier 2 players will have an additional cost above the base registration and will be communicated after Saturday September 12th.

Tier 3 will be composed of our house league players.  Each team will be composed of 12 players (11 skaters, 1 goalie) and will play within a 4 team “bubble”.

**Our U16 to U21 house divisions (formally known as Midget-Juvenile) will begin on the week of October 12 following Thanksgiving.

This framework is subject to and pending approval by the OMHA and OHF.

TSMHA Registration

For the Fall session (Session 1), the base registration fee is $330.  Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs will have an additional cost above the base registration and will be communicated after Saturday September 12th.

For first time hockey players (never played in any association), we’ll offer a $100 credit.  Fill out the new player registration form found here and our registrar will be in contact with you.

U16 to U21 house league registration will open from Monday October 5th through Monday October 12th – that base registration fee will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Our registrations period for our winter session (Session 2) will be communicated at a later date.

Those who have already registered DO NOT need to register again.  Refunds of monies left over will be refunded.

For refund information, please contact Elaine Vavoulis at [email protected]

Refunds for players that change their mind will be allowed up to the 6th week of each session.  Those refunds will be pro-rated and will include an administration fee of $25.  No refunds will be provided after the 6th week of each session.

What TSMHA and the Town of Tecumseh are doing to keep everyone safe

The Town of Tecumseh has placed their protocols and procedures in place and we ask you all to respect them.  We have created a subsection on our website named “COVID Documents” that will outline all safety guidelines and protocols to be adhered to.

Some of the highlights within these documents:

  • Follow all on-site signage and always maintain 6 feet (2 meters) distance from others
  • Masks are required for anyone entering the building – the are mandatory for all patrons not on the ice (once the helmet goes on, the mask can come off, once the helmet comes OFF, the mask goes ON)
  • Players are required to bring their OWN water bottles
  • Participants must come “prepared” by dressing in the equipment prior to arena entry (except skates/helmets/goalie pads)
  • Physical distancing in facility:  All spectators are responsible to physical distance 2 metres with others
  • Physical distancing on ice:  Use a coach’s stick length, roughly 9 feet apart (3 meters)
  • Coaching/Team staffs are to communicate to their own teams the responsibilities specific to practices
  • Only 1 parent/guardian of each skater under the age of 18 is permitted in the facility as an observer
  • No parents/guardians will be permitted down the dressing room hallway or in the dressing rooms – skate tying will be available in the lobby
  • All participants and coaches will be responsible for completing a pre-evaluation screening before coming to the arena.
  • Shared goalie equipment will be minimized – in leagues where goalies rotate, 4 week rotations will be implemented with sanitation of equipment between participants and at least 1 week of time in between

If someone becomes ill while onsite, please report the illness to the trainer assigned to their team/group and arena management immediately.  That person will be separated from other participants.  In the case of a TSMHA player, the parent will be immediately notified and the player removed from play.

This framework is subject to and pending approval by the OMHA and OHF.
